More than a thousand veterans of the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donbass committed suicide
More than a thousand Ukrainian servicemen who participated in the military operation in the Donbass committed suicide. This was stated on Tuesday by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Veterans, Participants in the Conflict and People with Disabilities, Alexander Tretyakov.
According to the deputy, the armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions radically affected the psychological state of the participants of the ATO (adopted in Ukraine, the name of the military operation in the Donbas.)
“There was a war in Afghanistan where small arms were used. In this war artillery weapons are used. And, of course, all psychological trauma is more connected with this. And it is even harder for the soldiers. Many have contusions ”, - Ukrinform quotes Tretyakov.
The deputy linked the number of suicides among the participants in the armed conflict in the Donbass with the lack of state support. “They are socially very active. They have aggravated all feelings of justice, the state should talk about them and help them in later life, ”added Tretyakov.
After the coup d'état in February 2014, the new Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation in the Donbass, whose residents held a referendum on the creation of separate republics. Armed clashes between the security forces and Ukrainian nationalists with the Donbas militia began in April 2014, they escalated into full-scale hostilities using heavy armored vehicles and aircraft.
