Kislovodsk - what to see in the beautiful city of the Caucasus (photo)
A bit of history
Even before the revolution, representatives of the old aristocratic families came here to rest, who built their estates here. In Soviet times, however, the sights of Kislovodsk became accessible to everyone - and in the city many health centers, sanatoriums, boarding houses, and also special medical institutions appeared.
Now the town is a product of the synthesis of three eras - in it you can see gorgeous palaces, most of which were turned into museums, the usual Soviet buildings, and the newest high-rise buildings, symbolizing the onset of the new era.
Mineral water treatment
Who does not remember the famous phrase about "a man tormented by narzan"? It was Kislovodsk that became one of the centers of extraction of the notorious mineral water - thanks to her, the city got its specific name.
In the photo of Kislovodsk you can see the original building,which is nothing more than a gallery that hides several places where the remedy comes to the surface - it is popularly called “Narzan Gallery". Those who want to improve their health can visit such a place and purchase sulfate and dolomite narzans for themselves - both from hot natural sources and those that have undergone pre-cooling.
The appearance of this landmark is not similar to any other building, marked on the map of Kislovodsk - for its construction, Vorontsov was invited by the English architect Upton.
Instead of the former wooden well, a large structure was built, in its shape resembling a keyhole. The middle of it was placed exactly in the place from which the spring of medicinal fluid was beating - with the help of such symbolism it was expressed that Kislovodsk and Narzan are the key to the whole Caucasus.
The frame of the source itself was repeatedly reconstructed due to frequent failures - as a result, we can see the original glass dome on modern photos,imitating the surface of the diamond. This continuation of Vorontsov's symbolism is intended to emphasize the importance and significance of the sights of Kislovodsk throughout the country.
It was said above that the city of Kislovodsk occupies only a part of the territory allotted to it according to the administrative division. The rest of the space is represented by a giant park, which stretches from the vicinity of the settlement to the peaks of the nearest mountains, calledSmallandBig Saddle.
This natural attraction will soon be two hundred years old - the first large green areas appeared nearby Kislovodsk in 1832. At that time, the city already existed, but the space around it was very sparsely decorated and lifeless.
And so it happened - after a few years the map, on which the sights of the city of Kislovodsk were marked, was supplemented with a small park, in which about 20 species of exotic plants grew, including those brought from outside Russia.
In the photo you can see that now a unique park of Kislovodsk occupies a truly huge area of more than a thousand hectares, representing the first largest garden and architectural complex in Europe, created in a man-made way.
Excursions are held throughout its territory, during which you can visit the Temple of Air, the central galleries, as well as the endless expanses of lawns and cascades of paths going up to the tops of the mountains.
In addition, the sights in Kislovodsk include the cable car, with the help of which you can drive over the whole territory of the park - from it the city is visible, as on a map, which attracts many tourists to this type of transport.
You can come here without an excursion - Kislovodsk is a relatively free place, which is not assigned a strict reserve regime. Locals and visitors often enough go to the slopes of the Big Saddle on weekends to have a picnic there or to give children the opportunity to frolic in the fresh air, leaving the boring city.
It is especially good to come to this part of Kislovodsk in the summer - here you can hide in the shade of a large tree to read a book or just lie down on the grass, listening to the chatter of cicadas.
It is unlikely that you will find on the map of the country a place just as beautiful and secluded - due to the fact that Kislovodsk includes such a large park, you can stay there all day and not meet a single person.
If you get tired of being alone, you can come toRose Valleylocated in the very center of a natural attraction - thanks to the beauty well depicted in the photo, it is always crowded here.
Legends and Legends
Approximately five kilometers from the border of Kislovodsk there is a high cliff, which is among the locals calledThe lock of deceit and love. Walking tours are often sent here, during which you can view almost all the sights in Kislovodsk.
Legend has it that in ancient times, when the large city was still a small village, the prince's daughter and the local shepherd fell in love with each other, despite the prohibitions of the noble ruler of these places. Upon learning that the young man was threatened with death, the couple decided to jump off the cliff together in order to stay together forever.
However, the guy jumped, and the girl was frightened and survived. But the joy of her father did not last long - she soon died, and then the inconsolable parent came to visit the shepherd’s grave.Here he stayed forever, turned into a stone, and from the place of his death the boy began to beat the key, which turned into one of the rivers washing Kislovodsk.
The city was also a place where the famous singer Fyodor Chaliapin loved to rest - on the map of the surroundings you will find quite a few names associated with his last name.
Near the Kislovodsk railway station there is a wonderful house in its beauty, which representsChaliapin's cottage.
It is said that it was in this attraction that he gave his famous mountain concerts. At the photo you can see that thanks to this house Kislovodsk received a very unusual addition to its architecture - Roerich himself was invited to build it.
In addition, not far from Kislovodsk andShalyapinsky grotto, which is popularly called the Demon's grotto.
When the singer came to the city, he was very fond of climbing into the remote foothills and singing there in nature, enjoying the echo that his voice reflected from the stone barriers. At this point, he performed the aria of the Demon, which sounded unusually ominous - a few days after Chaliapin left Kislovodsk, the grotto collapsed, losing more than two-thirds of its arch.Since then, it began to be called in this way, attributing unkind glory to the natural rock formations.
In Kislovodsk Park there is another architectural structure, which you can see in the photo - it is a famousMirror Pond.
The water that comes here, passes the city - it flows from a small key, the temperature of which throughout the year is 7 degrees.
In addition, Kislovodsk can offer its guests a lot of interesting things:
- mountain "Ring";
- honey falls Kislovodsk;
- Lermontov rock;
- dozens of various museums.
