How many lives a person has, or the Orthodox response to reincarnation

If you ask the Orthodox: "How many lives does a person have?", He will most certainly answer: "One." And then there will be a lot more to tell about how everyone who believes in reincarnation is mistaken. But in fact, the number of lives is not associated with the transmigration of souls.

Butterfly path

Personally, I think that all people have at least two lives, and most of them have three so accurately. No, I do not need to sew the article "heretic" and anathema. I do not mean the transmigration of souls.

It is interesting about why Orthodoxy rejects the idea of reincarnation, says Archpriest Maxim Kozlov. But I'm talking about something else. So how many lives does a person have?

Shpolyanskiy_put_babochka

On thinking about this prompted the opinion of Archpriest Michael Shpolyansky. He has a wonderful article where he compares a person to a butterfly that has five lives:

  1. the embryo in the body of the butterfly mother;
  2. testicles in the cobweb;
  3. caterpillar;
  4. pupa;
  5. butterfly.

The priest draws a direct parallel and says that a person experiences five births:

  1. conception;
  2. birth into the world;
  3. Epiphany;
  4. death;
  5. eternal life

Mikhail Shpolyansky interestingly argues his thoughts and leads to an understanding of the meaning of life on earth. It's hard to disagree with him, but it is worth adding some nuances.

From three or more

An ordinary average person has at least three lives. And they are all connected with different worlds. The man is the same, his soul does not change and is not transferred to anyone, does not move into anyone.

The first life lasts about nine months, the second - from a few seconds to tens, or even hundreds of years, the third just is not amenable to time constraints.

Birth of a child

As you may have guessed, the first is from conception to birth. This is due to the idea that from the moment of conception, every person is given a soul. The body is still developing, the child grows in its own separate world.

He takes everything in his own way. But it is already influenced by what happens outside: what parents think, how they behave, what they are interested in, what kind of music they listen to. In nine months (someone earlier) they will enter a second life, fundamentally different from the previous one.It will be a new space, other goals and opportunities.

But some children will be deprived of this stage - they are aborted, who died in the womb. Then we can say that they have only two lives. But more about that later.

The second is the arrival and stay of a person in the earthly world. This is a period of active development, the formation of personality and constant changes.

Philosophical reflections on how many lives a person has, limited by terrestrial space, also deserve attention. For example, in the sacrament of baptism, a person experiences a new birth — in the Church.

We die (not physically) as sinful beings and are born for a higher purpose. It is an eternity. Unfortunately, not all people go through this stage, but this does not prevent them from experiencing the following. That is, if you are not baptized, this does not mean at all that you will not change, you will not die physically and you will not see what is waiting behind the coffin.

Small line ruler

Also, people can have a significant number of such micro-lives. All of them are associated with deep feelings and changes - both for the better and for the worse.

Life change

For example, a person became seriously ill, he no longer had hopes for doctors, he turned to God and discovered many things for himself.
At such moments, people often comprehend the true meaning of life in this world - not in the bustle and constant accumulations of material wealth. Regardless of whether he is healed or not, only the memory will remain.

Also, a person can change dramatically after experiencing clinical death. As if for a moment, he looks into the future and that which he discovers for himself, forces out the old man and motivates him to behave in a completely different way.

The proposed concept of micro-life has nothing to do with the term David Spidgelhelter (a scientist by this means 30 minutes of a person’s life).

By this we should understand the new stage that comes after certain events. Not all, but only those that drastically affect a person. First, a person understands that it is simply impossible to continue, he understands what the meaning of life is, and then he confirms this with his actions.

For example, Mary of Egypt is one person, one person, one body and one soul. But her stay in fornication and holiness in the desert are two different lives bounded by one space.

To some extent, everything affects us: age (childhood, adolescence, youth, maturity, old age differ significantly), social circle, marital status, social status.

But in most cases, this should not be considered as separate micro-lives (only when they bring global changes - following the example of the believing wife, did the husband also understand Orthodoxy, the rich refused their property, because they understood: the meaning of life is not material values and d.)

If someone takes the path of fornication, robbery, drunkenness and other vices, especially harmful to the soul, he also begins a new stage.

Plasticine modeling circle

How many lives a person has (in this world) is a matter for individual consideration. Staying in the earthly space is the most flexible stage in our existence. Imagine that you are given clay in your hands and say: Lepi what you want.

There are books on which you can learn, there are people who will tell you. But no one puts categorical conditions: the only way and that is all! Can unless recommend.

Our earthly sojourn is like this: there is the Gospel, the Church — there are many clues. But everyone chooses what to do and how. Nobody checks here. Evaluate will be in the next life.

Temple life

That is, while we are in this world, we can work hard to get the top five.Death opens the door to another space and a new life for a person.

What will it be? The way we deserve - with God or not, in heaven or in hell. It is known for sure only that it will be eternal.

It will befall everyone: aborted babies, and those who died by their own death, and who committed suicide. But there is another nuance: Orthodoxy believes that before the Second Coming, even those that had long since died have a chance to go to heaven. How? Only if there are people who on earth pray for them very strongly.

***

The question of how many lives a person requires individual consideration. In addition, he does not tolerate categorical. There are only three fundamental conditions: conception (the birth of the soul), earthly sojourn (only stillborn are deprived of it) and eternity.

God gives us the first through parents, and gives us enough time to prepare for the last.

It is a pity that man does not always understand that the purpose of our earthly sojourn is to prepare for eternity.

... I will go to sculpt my clay figure.
