Fighting the sin of hypocrisy: the main thing that God will think about us
Let's smile and make a photo for social networks, so that everyone can see how well we had the time! - standard reaction of modern man and banal illustration of the sin of hypocrisy. Even if everything was bad, people should see what is supposedly beautiful.
Life in society imposes on the human imprint, depending on the views of others. There is a legal framework, a moral law and a personal moralizer - the conscience of each person. In addition, there is a majority opinion - whether at the level of the country or a small team. Everyone, one way or another, depending on what they thought of him.
Only the deserts and hermits were able to completely deny this. They were specially removed from the world so that nothing would prevent them from going towards God (Mary of Egypt spent 47 years away from people). But modern man cannot be completely isolated, and God does not expect this. The problem begins at the moment when a person becomes vulnerable and tries to look better than it actually is.
Instead of accepting reality, a person goes into the category of visibility. That is, he immediately goes on the wrong path: does not change internally, but only "mows down" from the outside. What to wear, say, read, see where to go - a person tries to match not his tastes and values, and what others think of him. And certainly something good. And it should look no worse than others, and preferably even better.
Let's take a closer look at the device of a person and the essence of hypocrisy.
Between uniqueness and sociality
God created each person unique. We are distinguished by appearance, timbre of voice, talents. We are complete by themselves, we have our own opinion. However, we also have a social mission. Adam "it was not good to be alone," the Lord created Eve. Man does not live on his own, but among other people, and is constantly subjected to their influence.
Both are natural for each of us, the only problem is how the person himself treats this. Over-individualization can lead to pride, and the perversion of socialization can be the cause of the sin of hypocrisy. Both are specialties of the evil one.
Disintegration of the personality: “I am alone” against “I-in-public”
What is hypocrisy? This pretense, the desire to look better in the eyes of others. A person loses integrity: now he plays one role, in 15 minutes he will try on another mask, then a third one ... “I am alone” and “I am in public” - very often these are two different figures. What does this lead to? Changing the guise of the guise, we forget what our real face.
There is a strict teacher. You need to smile and say hello, because he has to pass the exam. And in my head the thought flashes: well, and little one! We met with interesting people. So you want to look better in their eyes.
The hypocrite is constantly wondering: what will others think of me? What if it is bad? We must quickly save the situation! Since it will not be possible to change internally in a short time, then you need to put on another mask. Therefore, behind your back you are angry with a teacher or colleague, and in your eyes you are kindly nauseated.
Similar temptations fall and believers. When we start going to the temple and make friends with other parishioners, we also experience what they think about us. It is a shame to confess before a familiar priest, because he recognizes our sins and realizes that we are not at all white and fluffy, as they seemed, but dirty and vile.
Another manifestation of hypocrisy is the game "I'm not worse", which is loved by both children and adults. Often it comes to the point of absurdity: parents pay out huge sums for graduation in kindergarten, although this does not at all correspond to the family budget. It's nothing that they will not go on vacation anywhere for decades to live without repair and rather modestly eat, but everyone should see that they are not worse! And then, when children grow up as egoists, they shrug their shoulders in perplexity: “A sin of hypocrisy? No, I have not.
White and fluffy with dirty showers
Persuading others of how good he is, the person begins to believe in it himself. For example, a new believer. Well, what am I good! I go to the service, I sacrifice pennies to beggars, I put candles on it, I submit little notes, I eat prosforki, I even read the morning and evening rules and fast on Wednesday-Friday. Everyone saw how beautiful I am? On the forehead and grow horns of pride.
Sometimes a person can play so much that it will be almost impossible to get him out of a parallel world. In hypocrisy darkened by sin, the world is turned upside down. It seems to him that everything is fine.
But there is one problem. Or even a big problem. You cannot hide the essence of hypocrisy from God: he sees how we change our masks, how we try to please people, how we hide our soiled soul under the guise of white fluffiness. Now, before a man, it seems a shame to us to be dirty, and before God — not at all? How disgusting to look at me in this state! How terrible it is if I try to fake the works of faith!
Christ himself warns about this:
So it is better to choose: pretense and praise from people or good deeds in the name of the Savior and reward in heaven?
When you once again ask yourself the question “what others think of me” and catch yourself in falsehood, think about the fact that God knows your thoughts, words, deeds. He knows how you live, what you complain about, whether you sincerely act or not.
The oncoming person only sees you from outside and hears what has been said, but God knows what is happening in every cell of your body ... but does not interfere, it gives you the opportunity to correct yourself. The Lord made us originals. So why do we hypocrisy turn ourselves into cheap fakes?
